I think most of us would agree that we have no true problems with Marvel Super Hero Island. It is designed beautifully and features 2 of the best attractions within the Universal Orlando Resort. When Islands was being designed, all kinds of properties were being kicked around. The original plans for Toon Lagoon was to be themed to the Simpsons. Clearly Universal held on to those plans and the ambition to do it. Before Marvel came in.. Universal gave DC a call.

Fresh off the success of the 1989 Batman film, it was truly a hot property. Universal’s original plan was a dueling suspended coaster that would weave into 3 separate show buildings portraying a battle between Batman and the Penguin. A very ambitious task indeed. As you know, the deal never came to be. Instead, DC inked a deal with Six Flags parks to develop Batman attractions. Many different drawings of the Batman themed land have made their way online, including a gigantic statue of the caped crusader himself standing guard of the city. It absolutely screams 90’s. One of the rumored features of the land was to be an active Bat signal to rise above the park every night. The more I type the more I need this to happen. If you look hard enough, you’ll be able to find all kinds of concept art on these attractions. Truly a sight to behold.

There are some attractions that had to be left off this list. Of course there’s the always rumored Grinch/Mt. Crumpet coaster over by Seuss Landing empty plot , and the rumor of a Kong overlay to Disaster! at the Studios. Maybe another Top 5 is in order…
