After all the news, rumors, speculation, and anticipation – the construction walls are now down at Universal’s latest attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong.

This means we are one step closer to finally experiencing the attraction under a “Soft Opening”.

For those unfamiliar, a “Soft Opening” is essentially a technical rehearsal of a new attraction, or a final release candidate test for the ride. All the major components are installed and operational but some tweaks, changes, and updates will occur prior to the grand opening.

Fans will now look to websites, blogs, and social media using the term #KongWatch, or #ChanceofReign, with anticipation of seeing “Kong has Soft Opened!”.

When the walls came down on Sunday night, many fans rushed to Islands of Adventure on Monday morning, braving the elements from the threat of Tropical Storm Colin; but a little rain never hurt anybody. They stood firm in hopes that Universal would remove the barricade and finally let them experience the attraction until they finally realized it wasn’t meant to be.

Fans braved Tropical Storm Colin’s rain in hopes of riding.

As sad as it may be to see these fans wait through the rain getting soaked with no payoff, it serves as courtesy reminder that “Soft Openings” are never promised. There is no guarantee the ride will be opening. Skull Island might only open for a period of time, all day, or not at all depending on any issues or changes. There is no set schedule or guarantee it will be open until it’s officially Grand Opened.

If you wish to be one of the first to experience Skull Island when it finally soft opens, our best recommendation is to stick to social media and theme park sites (SHAMELESS PLUG: Hey, we have a Twitter and Facebook to follow!) and follow along to see when the time has come.

Until then, take a look at some photos of the new wall-less area as #KongWatch gets underway.
