Useless facts and trivia you don’t need to know (But want to)
I thought it would be nice to test some of our member’s knowledge on Universal Studios Hollywood. Here’s a thread where you can share all your useless facts and trivia that will only interest real Universal fans such as us. I’ll start us off.
We all know Universal has had its share of owners over the past few years, and most have influenced the park for the better and the worse. Now here’s something you might not know. For a short time, Universal was owned by Matsushita, Panasonic’s parent company. Now, to make good use of the synergy of the two companies, Universal used Panasonic as its exclusive vender for most audio/video products. If you take notice to most of the video monitors used at Universal, most will be manufactured by Panasonic. Speakers were also exclusively manufactured for Universal at the time. RAMSA, the audio division of Panasonic, was the prime vender for all audio equipment, some that are still in use today. Next time you go through the queue for Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, or Backdraft look at the speakers attached to the monitors. Most likely, they will be manufactured by RAMSA. There are also some remnants of the brand over at CityWalk. Now, we all know MCA also owned Universal back in the 90’s. Did you also know that MCA was the patent holder of the laserdisc? Yes, laserdiscs were used all over the park as the primary format for videos played throughout the park. Some have even proved the test of time, and after all these years they’re still used in the park today. You know all those side attractions included in the tour? Mastercard once (and still could) sponsored King Kong and Earthquake. Next time you ride the tour, keep your eyes on the lookout for any Mastercard advertisements. Now keep in mind, these trivia facts could be sheer coincidence, so don’t credit these as facts. Carl Laemmle Wrote:"...just think what this would mean..to see the inner workings of the biggest moving picture plant in the wide, wide world. See how we have to use the brains God gave us in every conceivable way in order to make the people laugh, cry or sit on the edge of their chairs the world over!" |

Useless fact...
Did you know that when BTTF was originally designed to open in 1991 at USH, before they had the contruction issues, that it was scheduled to be built on top of the parking structure where Terminator 2:3D currently sits? Instead Feival's Playland was placed there and BTTF came in 1993 next to the Starway where it sits now on the side of the hill. Ever noticed the buckling parking structure from the weight of T2? walk around Coke Soak sometime and look at all the cracks which have formed. Yeah, great idea to put a water attaction where cracks are forming! Earthquakes anyone? What are they going to do with Fung Lum's anyway??? How many years has it been empty...15? ![]() USH Employee 1998-2003 Show Host Lead (all shows) BTTF The Ride, T2:3-D, Nickelodeon Blast Zone, Chicken Run, The Grinch, The Mummy Returns, Starway Escalator, Special Effect Stages. |

Skillz5 Wrote:Useless fact... Haha, those warnings are posted in every parking lot in California. Makes you wonder... Useless fact... Did you know Jurassic Park's preshow video features USH's retro logo from the 90's? Look at the guests holding the park bags and merchandise as they enter the boat in the last portion of the queue.

Useless fact...
Did you know that one of the Phantom of the Opera animatronics inside the House of Horrors (The one above you) was once a police animatronic on the former E.T. Adventure where Revenge of the Mummy now sits. Another useless fact... Did you also know that the 20th Anniversary logo of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial's relese can still e seen on top of the R.O.T.M. building, faded? One more useless fact... Did you know that the Delorean Time Machine model displayed in the shelf during the first portion of the Special Effects Stage was once used as an example in an earlier segment of the attraction (Then called the "Back To The Future Special Effect Soundstages, World of Cinemagic")? BAM!
No no, this is Hill Valley alright, although I couldn't imagine hell being much worse - Doc Brown, Back to the Future part II (1989) |
