Paid Parking???

Paid Parking???
I have always wondered why Universal Citywalk Hollywood has always had parking admission. Is it because Universal is greedy for money? Is it because land costs so much in So Cal? Universal Orlando has free parking for Citywalk after the park box office closes. The only idea I can come up with is that Orlando has much more fierce competition and the free parking allows for guests to freely choose their night life destination.

I have always hated that Citywalk in Hollywood charges and that will keep me away from going there many times after park hours. Not even the deluxe annual pass with the parking option gives you this benefit.

Although I have noticed something...Disneyland parking is $11 and USH has not raised to match, yet. USH is still $10. Normally USH always matches prices with Disney on everything.

Thoughts, ideas?

RE: Paid Parking???
I've always found the price fair within the downtown area. Florida not only has the advantage of having a flat topography, they also have more real estate to grow on. Land in LA (I'm sure you know) is very expensive and limited especially in Universal's case. Our parking is very multi leveled compared with Florida's mostly flat parking lot.

Downtown Disney charges you for parking as well, though they offer vouchers if you attend a shop or restaurant.

RE: Paid Parking???
My thoughts exactly. Universal does offer a free parking option, but you stil have to arrive before 6pm and watch a movie!

I think that Citywalk parking should be vouched for if you eat at a resturant, similar to Downtown Disney. DD also give 3 hours of free parking without validation, or is it 2 hours? That alone gets me to go in there when I am driving past the park on the 5 freeway. I would never go to Citywalk when I am driving down the 101 because no matter what, I have to pay the $10 to park.

RE: Paid Parking???
You have to factor costs here. Universal Studios Hollywood is the only park that I know of that has this type of parking structure. Other parks in California have mostly flat lots. That's easy to maintain compared to multiple structures on steep hillside.

If you go to downtown LA, you'll find parking around that price. I'm not sure about Anaheim, but price definitly has to do with location. Universal is on very hot real estate, located near Hollywood hills where parking is especially hard to find.

Besides if you happen to be a regular at CityWalk, it'll be wasteful not to buy the premium pass. It naturally pays for itself overtime when you factor in parking.

RE: Paid Parking???
I normally purchase the deluxe pass with the parking, however, my attendance to the park is much less than it used to be. I no longer buy the parking pass. I agree that paying for Citywalk parking is something to help costs.

Many times to help save money I will park at the Red Line Station for free and take the shuttle tram up the hill for free. (hint, hint) Not good on busy work weeks though.

RE: Paid Parking???
Chris, I had a friend recently try your parking idea over at the Red Line Station. Told me it wasn't worth it in the end. Too much walking and they weren't patient enough to wait for the trams.

RE: Paid Parking???
Well, there is the problem. Its worth it if you want to save the now $15 parking price. However, I do not reccommend it on peak days.

Disney still offers 3 hours free and 5 hours with Validation at and sit down resturant.

Citywalk offers $7 refund on parking if you see a movie before 5pm. I believe that Citywalk parking price changes once the theme park box office closes.
