Page Discussion: Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride
Quote:“A good attempt” are three words that I can use to sum up the entire ride. Unlike the Simpsons, I think Universal made an honest attempt here at creating a truly original ride – only to come up short in Hollywood due to space constraints. In this instance, “Florida’s is better” rings truer than it ever has before. Simply put, Florida had more room which results in a better ride.
Quote:Anyhow, that was in the past and I’ll explain the present. Their new ending is truly a farce, so say the least. I won’t give it away, but it’ll probably leave you wondering “the hell was that?” when the ride is finnished . But anyways, the ride itself is still decent, despite the changes and I still suggest you check it out. Some of the effects are interesting and it’s a great way to cool off on a hot day without resorting to water.

RE: Page Discussion: Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride
Hey guys. Why does Universal on those less crowded off season days still run 5 or 6 cars when they are only doing a one load platform operation. I mean I just got sick of all the stacking at the end there. I would prefer to only wait for one car in front of me in order to get off, not 4 cars. And another thing if they run less cars, the parts on all the cars won't ware out as fast, so it would save them money.

My guess would be it's easier to keep five or six cars running instead of constantly rotating things around depending on the crowds. Doesn't require as much tech work.

Another though I had was that mabey because the maintence bay isn't that big (which base on its location I don't think it is very big) so mabey there is just no room to house multiple cars in it for storage. But if that is the case that is a major design flaw that they should have corrected when they designed it.

I guess the same could be said about Jurassic Park, because there always seems to be a queue of boats - even when the park's not crowded. Could be a insider reason we're not getting.

RE: Page Discussion: Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride
I emailed Nick (techop), who is a service technician in the service industry. He has the following to say -

Quote:There are many different reasons for numbers of ride vehicles in operation at one time.

I know that some rides, keep ride vehicles off the track until attendance picks up later in the day. Or in the year. For an example even though the ride system can handle 8 vehicles the ride only runs with 6 until 11:00 AM every day during peak seasons. For one ride at Universal (Revenge of the mummy) this is the case. I even talked with the maintenance techs who have to put the others cars on the track at 11:00. They don’t agree with the process it is deiced by someone hire up the food chain. (Real loading and unloading times may differ)It's all so sometimes the parks intention, to make waiting lines longer on rides during some hour of operation.

Rides to have their limitations. A ride can only handle a maximum number of ride vehicles. Do too many different reasons. Some being for total gross weight or for the fact that as one vehicle leaves a scene. That scene needs a set amount of time to reset. Before the next vehicle can enter. If there were too many vehicles then the scene would not be setup for the new guest’s coming in.

OK …on to what I believe was the really question……

As for ride vehicles running empty or lots o ride vehicles on the track. The main reason is personal. It usually takes a maintenance technician to take ride vehicle on and off the track. Not a ride operator. Also there is a limited amount of storage space for the ride vehicles. This storage space all so usually doubles as the maintenance and repair area for the ride vehicles as well. Since every vehicle has to be inspected and tested based on annual dates. It doesn’t heart to leave all the ride vehicles on the track all the time.

My personal thanks go out to Nick for taking the time to reply to our question. He's a busy man, so for him to take time out of his busy schedule means that much more.
