Pacifica reference at Subway set of Studio Tour
Greetings,
While doing the studio tour I noticed several references to Pacifica inside the subway station. For reference this is the subway station that looks very similar to a BART station, during the visit the guest experience an earthquake, a tanker truck falls thru the ceiling and then water floods the station. There are digital signs (very similar to BART signs) announcing the trains. One sign said "East Bay Express". On the other side of the track was a sign that said "Pacifica Express". Also on one of the walls was a system map (again very similar to BART) with one of the end point destinations being "Pacifica". Does anyone know what the connection is? Pacifica is a medium size city about 6 miles south of San Francisco. It seems like a relatively obscure city so it was surprising to see these references. I could not find any information on Google and I forgot to ask the tour guide about it at the end of the tour. As it turns out Pacifica has been related to several movies including American Graffiti, Harold and Maude and House of Sand and Fog. Surprising for a little known fogging city outside of San Francisco (especially when you consider all the other better known cities in the Bay Area such as Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose etc ...). |

RE: Pacifica reference at Subway set of Studio Tour
Hi, and welcome to the forum.
My guess would be that it's all purely coincidental. They may have traveled to one of the BART stations in Northern California and simply took that as a model (most likely), or one of the designers may have lived in the city and may have wanted to pay homage to their hometown (least likely). I doubt it has any connection to the movies you listed above. I'll ask around, but I don't think it was at all intentional.

RE: Pacifica reference at Subway set of Studio Tour
Thanks for the reply Jon. I think it is your second suggestion (pay homage) that is most likely. I think this because
- there is no Pacifica BART station. - Pacifica is a relatively obscure smallish town. Then again maybe Pacifica is not so obscure. |
