Walt Disney World has announced that the all-new Rivers ff Light waterside show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is set to premiere April 22, 2016 – on Earth Day, as well as Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s 18th anniversary.

Rivers of Light will be an immersive nighttime extravaganza blending performers, floating lanterns, special effects and theatrical imagery projected upon giant water screens. The new nighttime show will premiere in the new Discovery River waterside theater.

Here’s a brief synopsis from the Disney Parks Blog:

The show, set on Discovery River in the Asia section of the park, will depict an ancient lantern festival guided by two storytellers who call forth four animal Spirit Guides: an Asian Tiger, Tropical Turtle, African Elephant and Great Horned Owl. These Spirit Guides return at different points during the show to lead the audience through their journey through the Rivers of Light.

The park’s iconic Tree of Life will also be featured part of the nighttime activities, as it will partake in a celebration of Discovery Island music and dance. Per Disney – “Through stunning visuals, animal spirits appear and enchanted fireflies reveal stories of wonder as the tree morphs to showcase the magic of nature.”
