A Universal Theme Park may be headed to the United Kingdom. Universal Destinations & Experiences has confirmed they have purchased land near London and are in the initial stages of exploring a potential resort.

The land purchased is located in Bedford, England, which is about 60 miles outside of London.

Per a Universal spokesperson – “We recently acquired land in Bedford and are at the early stages of exploring its feasibility for a potential park and resort at this site. It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision to proceed and we look forward to engaging with all relevant stakeholders and the local community.”

Universal states they selected the location for its transportation infrastructure and proximity to large populations.

Per Alicia Stella, who initially reported the rumor just recently, it’s believed the company has acquired roughly 500 acres of land.

Since planning is in the very early stages, there are no details on what will be included in a potential theme park or an opening timeframe.

The potential London theme park joins the list of other destinations Universal will be opening in the next decade; including Orlando’s Epic Universe theme park in 2025, Frisco’s Universal Kids Resort destination, and Las Vegas’s Horror Unleashed haunt experience.
