Universal Orlando has announced the dates for next year’s Mardi Gras celebration. The popular event will take place every night from February 3 through April 7 in 2018, spanning 64 nights – making it the longest celebration Universal has held – with the food courtyard open and the parade taking place every night. On select nights, popular acts from yesterday and today will perform live in concert in the Music Plaza Stage. The concert lineup for Mardi Gras 2018 will be revealed in the coming months. Universal Orlando has officially announced that Dragon Challenge will close on Sept 5th to make way for an all-new coaster experience that will take guests “deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World”. While no specifics have been announced, Universal Orlando promises that it will be one of the “most highly-themed coaster experiences” they’ve created, and ” redefine the category”. UPDATE: 7/21/2017 The walls around the former home of the Flame Broiler have been updated featuring the Poké Bar logo. While nothing has been officially announced, the logo used on the walls essentially confirms what’s coming. Poké Bar serves Poke, which is a raw fish salad that’s traditionally served in Hawaiian cuisine. From their official website – the restaurant features meals with tuna, salmon, albacore, shrimp, octopus, scallop and tofu; with different mixtures including seaweed, onions, and kale. Disney has announced its planned development for Disney Vacation Club will be an entirely new resort near Epcot called Disney Riviera Resort. Estimated to open in fall 2019, the Riviera Resort is slated to be the 15th Disney Vacation Club property, with approximately 300 units spread across a variety of accommodation types. The resort will also be connected with the newly-announced transportation system of gondolas, called the Disney Skyliner, which will connect the new Disney Vacation Club property, Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot.
A whole new transportation system of gondolas is planned, called the Disney Skyliner, to give guests a never-before-seen birds-eye view of Walt Disney World. The new transportation system will connect the new Disney Vacation Club Riviera Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot. Many of the gondolas with Disney Skyliner will feature favorite Disney characters. The new transportation is estimated to open in Fall 2019.
During the Parks and Resorts presentation at the D23 Expo, it was confirmed that a Tron attraction similar to the popular attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is heading to Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. The attraction will be built directly next to Space Mountain. The rumored plans of the ride replacing the Tomorrowland Speedway were premature, therefore the Speedway currently has no plans to close. The TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is a coaster-style attraction where riders board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles and enter TRON’s high-tech universe.
