We’re back with a photo update around the Universal Orlando Resort! This month, we take a look at several projects going on around Universal; including set up for Rock the Universe 2024 and Mardi Gras 2024: International Flavors of Carnaval at Universal Studios Florida. We also take a look at the latest construction on the new DreamWorks area and refurbishments happening around the resort. Let’s take a look!

    CityWalk Orlando

CityWalk Wheelchair Rental has relocated adjacent to Hollywood Drive-In Golf while the normal area is closed for refurbishment.

Since closing earlier this month, not much has changed to the Universal Legacy Store – outside of the addition of construction walls.

    DreamWorks Area

Construction continues over in the new DreamWorks area, with Shrek’s Swamp Home the most notable structure that can be seen. The rumored Troll-themed roller coaster’s brightly painted colors can be seen just peeking over the surrounding construction walls.

    Mardi Gras 2024

Set up has begun for Mardi Gras 2024 which is set to kick off Feb 3. Tents and booths are being set up around the park.

Some of the food booths this year have been upgraded to be fully enclosed, instead of the usual facade over a pop-up tent. This should allow continuous service in the event the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The facade for the Mardi Gras Tribute Store has started construction. For the event, the entrance will now be located where the past Stores exited.

    Rock the Universe 2024

Before Mardi Gras starts, Rock the Universe 2024 will be held on Jan 26 & Jan 27. The Hollywood Stage is ready for this weekend’s concerts.

The Music Plaza Stage will first host the headlining acts of Rock the Universe before being used for Mardi Gras.

The Coca-Cola Fan Zone has been set up in New York down Delancey Street.

    New Lagoon Nighttime Show

Universal hasn’t shared any information about Universal Studios Florida’s new nighttime show. What we do know is that the lagoon platform is much larger than the previous one. Hopefully, we find out more information about the new nighttime show.

    Jurassic Park River Adventure

Jurassic Park River Adventure is currently closed for its annual winter refurbishment. Construction walls have surrounded the entrance. The ride is expected to re-open on Feb 2, 2024.

From beyond the walls, scaffolding can be seen around the splashdown rockwork.

    Marvel Super Hero Island Refurbs

As the entirety of the Resort is undergoing refurbishments, Marvel Super Hero Island has a good amount of work going on throughout the land. Most notably, the entrance to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is closed. A temporary entrance has been set up in the extended queue of the attraction.

After months of being open, the Marvel food kiosk has finally been given signage; revealing its name – Daily Bugle Snacks & Drinks.

Other refurbishment projects include the entrance to the Marvel Arcade and the side entrance of the Spider-Man Gift Shop.

Walls are up near the transition of the land, but the Lemon Slush stand remains open.

Ko’okiri Body Plunge and The Reef

Over at Volcano Bay, Ko’okiri Body Plunge and The Reef are closed for refurbishment. Both attractions are expected to reopen on February 15, 2024.

A Little Bit of this, A Little Bit of that

The Illumination Mural on the side of the Transformers: The Ride 3D show building is still in the process of being painted.

Mel’s Drive-In is still closed for refurbishment. No reopening timeframe has been given.

The New York mural facade is nearly finished with its repainting refurbishment.

The Islands of Adventure wait time board is being replaced. A temporary info board has been placed near it to share wait times and park hours.

The Cat in the Hat fountain area is walled off for refurbishment.

Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous is still closed for its refurbishment. No reopening timeframe has been given.

The 2 fighting dinosaurs on the Pizza Predattoria sign have been removed for refurbishment.
