Shoe Palace has opened in CityWalk Hollywood, Inside Universal has learned. Shoe Palace will accommodate guests of all ages and offers shoes, apparel, and accessories from many popular brands including Nike, Adidas, Vans, and New Balance. The original Shoe Palace started as a family owned business and opened in 1993 in San Jose. Since then, Shoe Palace has expanded to over fifty locations on the west side of the United States. After a lengthy and extensive remodel, Mel’s Diner has reopened inside Universal Studios Hollywood. The legendary diner from American Grafetti closed for refurbishment late last summer and is finally ready to serve guests once more. Mel’s has replaced the old pick-and-choose service style with a new walk-up counter. Guests may order their food at a cash register and then head to the counter for pick up. Universal’s Lunar New Year Celebration has returned for its third year. Running for just over two weeks and located in Universal Plaza, guests will be able to celebrate with Asian inspired foods, decorations, and character interactions. Inside Universal has learned that the Character Shop on the Lower Lot has been closed to make way for more merchandise from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The shop appears to be reverting to its original Studio Store name, and will open February 6 according to the latest version of Universal’s park map. The new E.T. parking structure has opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, Inside Universal has learned. Adorned with classic images of everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial, the new lot stands eight stories tall and is complete with close to five thousand parking spaces, making it one of the largest on the property. The structure will allow you to enter from the 101 Freeway on the Universal Studios Boulevard side of Universal City, with long roadways leading to 24 ticketing booth lanes – the largest on site.
