Shrek and Donkey are at it again to help rescue Princess Fiona from the ghostly image of Lord Farquaad. In short, it’s the mini-sequel to Shrek.
I believe I’ve mentioned it before on this website, but if you haven’t already heard – I’m not exactly a huge fan of 3D movies, and suffice to say, Shrek doesn’t fall into an exception. Regardless of what I think, Shrek 4D is usually almost always a hit with families. For starters, it’s one of the few attractions geared towards children and in that capacity, it does quite well. The outlandish 3D effects are a given and the whole thing is just plain silly – in a good way. The technology behind the show is done exceptionally well, if not albeit “corny” and it really is a good show altogether.
In terms of theming, the whole building is moderately done, though nothing exceptional. As you enter through into the preshow, you’re placed in Lord Farquaad’s dungeon as layers of exposition are presented to the audience. From there, you’re ushered into a main auditorium where the main presentation begins.

Though nothing groundbreaking, it’s a good show and an admirable addition to Universal’s line of attractions. It appeals to the kids and it’s a fantastic hit with families. It really is silly fun all around and I suggest you give it a look.
Before the show
Like Terminator, Shrek 4D runs on rotation throughout the entire day. As such, I wouldn’t hit this one up unless I have all the other scheduled shows over and done with. Just give it a 30 minute window of opportunity and you should be fine. If anything, I would avoid the last performance since there’s always a chance the theater could fill up before you make it in. Other than that, really anytime is a great time to see this show.
Another tip: if you don’t mind sitting in the back, head towards the left of the preshow room once you enter in. For whatever reason, people love to bunch up to the far right and get a front row seat in the main auditorium, even though you maintain the same advantages of sitting in the back as you do sitting in the front.
There’s also no photography or video taping. There’s a DVD of the show available on Amazon.com if you’re a huge fan, so save your battery and film for something else.
Seating
The whole room is shaped like a traditional movie theater. As with Terminator, you’ll enter through one side of the theater and make your way all the way till you reach the other side.

In terms of preferred seating, any seat is fine. If you were to ask me, I’d probably sit near the front-middle section (marked in green) to get the best view, but there really aren’t any concernable differences. Having said that, try to move to the farthest empty seat you can find. Trust me, the people behind will you love you for it.
After the show
Restrooms are located near the Nicktoons gift shop should you need to use them and be sure to return your glasses.
Oh, Shrek 4D is absolutely fine for children. If they’ve ever watched a movie, they should be fine. If you need to make use of the stationary seating, it’s available near the back of the theater for your use. The seats do give your butt a good workout, so use your best judgment on whether or not you need to take advantage of those.
